Q:hi, i was just looking at your site and was wondering if the ferrets pictured together necessarily have to be sold together? harvarti and cheddar in particular. :)
Often they do, but not always. If they’re a bonded pair we will not separate them. If you’d like to know more about those two, call the shelter at 708.442.8650. Saturday would be a good to to call. One of our “ferret whisperers” is volunteering that day and will know right away if they must be adopted together.
Shelter Population Reaches 100

Alexander the Very Old and rather cancerous ferret still rocking his outdoor time. Also pictured is Ye Olde Male Counterparte.
Alex was the first rescue we took in, and the only to be labeled as unadoptable due to his insulinoma, adrenal cancer, cataracts (and detached lenses at this point) and the medicine that keeps all of that handled. At the time he was surrendered we thought he was just a bit cranky until we got his sugar tested and one thing led to another three.
He is a Damn Good Kid.
Q:Hi, I just got my first ferret and I was hoping you could answer a question for me. I don't think he knows how to drink out of his water bottle and I've put his mouth on it a couple of times. Will he eventually figure it out? I've been giving him soaked kibble to make sure he gets enough water.
I don’t like bottles because they never get enough water out of them. If you watch you see that it is hard to get water out. By the time they are at the bottle they are already thirsty.
Isn’t it annoying when you are dying for a drink but you can’t get water??
A lock on bowl of water is better. Some people don’t like a bowl of water because the ferret will make a mess, snorkeling, and taking a bath. But it is way easier to clean. It is a win win for both of you guys.
I had Charlie and Tilly on a bottle when I first got them. I had a hard time getting them to drink and switched to the bowl.
You can try putting out a dish of water and see if he drinks out of it. Just keep it supervised because most ferrets will play in it.
Making sure he is hydrated is great especially during the summer.
Good job on soaking his kibble.
Even though, I have the bowl out, sometimes I put water on their food when it is hotter.
Any input from my lovely followers?
I think I’m a little obsessed…
I’ve been looking at ferret forums, information, products, ect. for… About 3 hours straight? And that’s just today.
Even though I won’t be able to get a ferret for some time to come - definitely not within 2014 - I don’t think you can ever know too much. Of course, theoretical knowledge can only go so far, but I just REALLY want a ferret someday…
Keep researching! You can also check out our FB page to connect with other ferret fanatics.
